Meaning (un)Folded

"Air Mail" by Joel Robinson

each poem set free
takes flight

stark white butterflies
perch precariously
on nose tips
waiting on eyes to unfold
the mysteries lying within

each reader dusting truth
with their own color palette
before setting it on its way

sometimes they return adorned
in a single hue
other times they return splashed
in an array of colors

but always they return
each poem set
on setting me free

Inspiration for this piece:  Over at dVerse Poets Pub for Poetics, they introduced the photography of Joel Robinson; the idea being to use his whimsical creations as inspirations.  With so many to choose from, it was not easy.  But in my last post, I explored the idea of interpretation...and somehow, the little white butterflies being set free from the typewriter nagged at this recent pondering.  So, I went with it.

I like the idea that a poem set free also sets free its writer.

cool. and true....we set them free, knowing that not everyone will see them the same...using their own palette to change it a bit...

I like your perspective here and do agree that a poem can set a person free. At its best, that is just what a poem does!

The thing i love about poetry is it TRULY is alive..changing even for me from the words i write..with never a thought in mind...

A beautiful thing when even the secrets of one..unwinds into the words of a mystery sea..
where waves change..

in ears in play!of words on canvas in art of mind
also known as HeART!

Wow, I love your title and response ~ I like the imagery of words as stark white butterflies, returning adorned in a single hue or in colors ~ Always, they too set me free ~

A beautiful addition to the poems ~ Thanks for participating ~

Wonderful insight into this image--those fluttering little words can hold real promise for release, both for the reader and the writer. Excellent!

You did well to go with the butterflies. They inspired such a delightful poem. I really like this. It is proof that poetry frees the imagination.

However you came to decide your decision was a good one for your chosen words. An I agree that writing and poetry does let us be free and expressive.

A poem is a perfect dose to seek release for the mind. One sets free a depressed mind and smoothen the clutter. Great thoughts RMP

i like how poems develop a life of their own if we let them go and release them so that others can interpret and let 'em speak to them...
